Choose the right mascara formula

With the myriad of beauty products available in the market, selecting the best mascara can be as puzzling as the existence of the fabled Sasquatch. There are brands that promise longer lashes, while others claim to make it appear thicker or curled. For beauty queens with teary ducts, waterproof mascaras can come handy. And if you feel that black is not your color, then you can opt for lighter shades.

But do not fret you do not have to buy one of each set of mascara to pull off sultry gazes. There are products that are formulated to do all of it in one stroke. Save time searching for the perfect eye-flattering makeup with the L’oreal Paris Original Voluminous mascara ($5.89). This waterproof mascara can do both the lengthening and thickening effect. And if your eyes are quite sensitive with makeup or if you wear contact lenses, this mascara is ideal.

Another favorite is the Maybelline® Volum’ Express® The Falsies™ Flared Mascara ($4.74) that stays on even after watching two tear-jerking movies (one of them is The Notebook). You can wear this to work, day at the beach, or even when you are off to a sweaty day at the gym. This is the secret to looking gorgeous without trying too much.

Prepping Up Your Eyes

Before you start using your beauty magic wand, make sure the eye area (and the other parts of your face) is clean and ready for make-up. Use a foundation or a concealer like the Sonia Kashuk® Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette ($10.49) to cover blemishes, or pimple marks. I suggest for beginners, put on the eye shadow first before the mascara. I used to forget this and end up with smudges all over my eyes and hands then doing it all over again.

You can also use a mascara primer to ensure that the mascara does not flake or wear off until you want it to. Though the mascaras we mentioned above swears to keep your lashes sexy as long as you need with its waterproof and no-clump formulation.

Others have exceptionally-curly eyelashes, while others do not. If you belong to the latter, a lash curler is exactly what you need. Give it an alluring bend with Revlon Extra Curl Eyelash Curler ($4.99). Start by placing the curler close to your eyes so that your eyelashes are between the curler’s mouth. Work from the root of your lashes, the middle, and then the tips. Also, do not hold for too long, only around two to three seconds, as it may give your lashes an artificial folded look instead of the natural curl you want.

Applying the Mascara

Once your lashes are all curled up, you can start brushing them with the best mascara. It is best to slowly rotate or turn the wand inside its container when daubing it with mascara ink to avoid flakes. Another thing you have to watch out for is that it (wand) does not draw too much mascara because, aside from it becoming messy, it will also cause clumps.

Like curling your lashes, you need to start at the base then all the way up. Before I used to just brush the wand up and down, which did not result to what I hoped it would. Based from experience and a whole lot of YouTube how-to videos, I’ve learned that the most effective way to apply mascara is by wiggling it from side to side (from the base to the middle) and then sweeping it up towards the end. Continue to do so until you get thicker and longer lashes you want. Normally, two or three coatings will do.

You can start with you upper lash, then the bottom, whichever you like. To avoid blotting, use a post it or piece of paper and slide it under or over your lashes when applying the mascara.

Once the mascara is all dried up, which would probably take about two or three minutes, trace your eyelids with an eye liner to give it a fuller look. Try Revlon’s Color Stay Liquid Liner ($4.99) for a little emphasis. It is also waterproof so you do not have to worry about any mess at all.

Finally, check yourself on the mirror. You’ll be amazed at how sexy your eyes look, and the way compliments your whole look. Eye shadow alone won’t draw attention to your eyes, while adding mascara will revamp your lashes and open up your eyes. Imagine a story without a climax that is your eyes without the mascara.

Removing it

As much as you want your makeup to stay on all day, you also want it off at night. Your skin has to rest too, and it can only do that when it is clean and free from chemicals. Doing this will maintain your glow and prevent nasty pimples, dark heads or white heads, and facial rashes.

Sonia Kashuk® Remove – Eye Makeup Remover ($10.19) is also a good choice as it comes with a moisturizer that leaves your skin soft and refreshed. And once you are done stripping your face off with makeup, give yourself a good night’s sleep so you are ready to conquer the world again tomorrow.
